so i've been thinking yet again about attempting those Deathworld figurines i talked about a few years
ago (god, i can't believe i've had this Super Sculpey sitting around for two years! ), so i think
i'm gonna get off my ass and actually try it. First attempt will be Beermna, seeing as how he's the easiest
character to model. The reason why i think it's a good time to try it? Well, i'm tired of all my computer
games and i need something to do. That, and i've been dreaming of how to put them together, so i
think my subconscious is trying to tell me something  Rolling Eyes

well, i got my first attempt done today. Beerman looks a little more
"Gumby-esque" than what i saw in my head, but it's not all that bad looking.

well, i don't have a digital camera, and i'd feel a little silly trying to put it in my scanner...   Tongue
eventually, i'll try and get some film (and batteries) for the camera i do have, and get some
pictures up... but don't hold your breath  Neutral

I was trying to make some Wallace and Gromit-style stop-motion thingies last week, but with teddy bears, it was pretty rubbish XD. I do wanna make some kinda thing like that with plasticine, though i think it'll be more like The Fat Slags from VIZ than Wallace and Gromit XD. I'll also eventually try and use Multimedia Fusion to make a Scum Slaughter "anime but not in the anime style but i wouldnt really call it a cartoon either" one day as well, but making the comics might be good first. Or even the game that the comics are 'based on' XD

wel,, the second figurine has been completed. i choose to do Anna
this time around, simply because with her lab-coat i wouldn't have to
worry so much about the internal structure. i think she turned out
quite nice, although her foot broke off after i took her out of the oven
(the feet got stuck to the base i used during construction).
i'm also going to have to find a way to prop up the figures during
firing, as they keep falling over when the clay goes soft before curing!
i'm still not all that happy with how the faces are turning out, but i think
it may have to do with A) the fact i'm attempting to translate 2D
features onto a 3D object, and B) Sculpey is a little difficult to work
with in small quantities (the head is roughly the size of a penny!)

i'm not sure who i'm going to try next. i was thinking maybe OMEGA...

i think i have heard of some people doing some of the more detailed work after firing. carefully cutting into the stature to put in creases and the like.

makes sense. i did have to use my X-acto knife afterwards
to do some cleaning (the white clay i used for the lab-coat picked
up clothing fibres and dust specks that i needed to scrape off),
and i had to carve off "shoe" material so that she would not tip over.

probably because his shoulders are wider-set than i draw usually him.
the figurine was actually bulkier in it's first iteration.

Very nice Rudi, Anna's hair is really well done. I have a friend who makes similar things.  pirate
